About Seminar Assistant
Welcome guests, adjust lighting levels, keep presenters on schedule, distribute handouts and evaluation forms, make announcements, take attendance, manage traffic flow and assist where needed.
Seminar Assistant Job Duties
- Greet attendees and distribute handouts.
- Identify location of open seats.
- Monitor and enforce fire department room capacity maximums. Make sure exit doors and walkways in each room are accessible and unobstructed.
- Adjust lighting in the room using the control panel.
- Read scripted announcements prior to the start of each seminar.
- Keep an eye on the length of the presentation to keep your speaker on time.
- Hand out and collect evaluation forms.
- Count and record attendance for each seminar.
- Direct visitors to the location of seminars, demonstrations, workshops, exhibitor booths, food stations, and other Alliant Energy Center amenities.
- Direct questions to your captain as needed.
Seminar Assistant Job Skills and Requirements
- Friendly and positive demeanor
- Strong communication and pronunciation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be courteous, patient and resilient.
- Ability to maintain a calm and helpful demeanor in stressful or conflict situations.
- Enjoy working in a people focused environment.
- Comfortable speaking in a public setting.
- Physically able to stand and circulate among attendees for short periods of time.
- Know and follow safety practices regarding use of equipment related to your job area.
- Ability to discern when to ask your captain for assistance.
- Volunteers 16 and older may participate.
