On Aug. 11, approximately 30,000 people gathered at Miller Park in Milwaukee. What would be an average audience at a Brewers game was actually an extraordinary crowd that gathered to see the feature-length premiere of Honor Flight. The film, which was shown on the Miller Park big screen, chronicles Wisconsin World War II veterans on an honor flight to the war memorials in Washington, D.C.
If you weren’t able to attend, or want to relive the day, WPT will air Field of Honor: A Salute to the Greatest Generation at 9 tonight, Aug. 23. Field of Honor was produced by Milwaukee Public Television and covers the events from the Aug. 11 celebration. Inside the stadium, of course, was the film screening – which actually broke the Guinness world record for number of attendees at a feature film premiere. And on the grass, veterans and Gov. Scott Walker gave speeches to the crowd. Outside the ball park, World War II re-enactors, fireworks and flyovers captivated the crowd.

I caught a few minutes of Field of Honor last night and was pleasantly surprised to see a piece on my good friend Dave Hoyle receiving his long overdue Purple Heart. I’d like to do a piece in my weekly column about it. Is there anyway I can get a transcript or a CD of the program?
