Dressing the Part

What’s it cost to live like a Crawley? A lot, obviously. So much in fact, that it’s easier if we look at the cost of just one slice of the Crawley lifestyle. That’s what RadioTimes has done in this chart that breaks down the cost of one character’s wardrobe in a given week.

About that grand total. £28,483 is about $47,284.

Luckily there’s a multitude of consignment shops and second hand stores, not to mention Pinterest boards with tips for DIY styles, which means you can look the part at your next screening party and still have enough money to buy veggies and dip for everyone.

  1. This reminds me of the innovations in fashion depicted in the PBS series about Selfridges department store, though I’m not certain whether the dates of the Selfridges fashions overlapped with the styles seen in “Downton Abbey.”

  2. avatar Daily Downton says:

Pretty close. Masterpiece Mr. Selfridge depicts the opening of Selfridges department store in 1909. Downton Abbey, meanwhile, takes place beginning in 1912, with Season 4 set during 1922. Without a doubt, it’s the fashion that makes both of these series so popular. A new season of “Mr. Selfridge” begins March 30 on WPT. We’re told the season picks up the story in 1914.
