There’s a Downton Abbey costume exhibit coming to America, but you’ll have to travel to see it.
Costumes of Downton Abbey, coming to Winterthur Museum in Delaware, is being billed as the only Downton Abbey costume exhibit in the United States. And, with good reason, the state of Delaware is excited about it. The exhibit even topped one newspaper’s list of things to do in Delaware in 2014.
It’s hard to say whether people outside the East Coast will forgo popular summer vacation destinations like the National Parks, northland lakes and New York City for a visit to Delaware But given that the exhibit runs from March 1 – January 2015, it’s worth considering Delaware somewhere in your 2014 travel plans.
The major contributor to the exhibit is COSPROP, which designs costumes for film, television and theater, and offers exhibition services to museums. The company’s additional exhibits include Titanic Hats, Pride and Prejudice, and Costumes from Austen.
The exhibit in Delaware will feature 40 costumes from Downton Abbey, and according to the Winterthur’s marketing, Lady Edith’s wedding dress is the highlight. It appears Mary’s engagement dress —worn beautifully in the snow in Season 2 — also will be on display.
Winterthur alone looks like it could be used for a setting in Downton Abbey. If you’ve already decided you’re going, visitdelaware.com has some unique destinations to add to your Downton Abbey experience in the United States.
