It’d be crazy to think there would be little reaction on the Internet to last Sunday’s episode of Downton Abbey. When the episode aired in the UK, the reaction — though not as big as the response to Matthew’s death — quickly filled blogs and newspaper columns, and was likely an unpleasant spoiler for many waiting to watch in the U.S.
Some reviews have sharply criticized writer Julian Fellowes for misjudging the audience while others remain intrigued to see how he will handle the matter in the remaining episodes. The New York Times has a fair and reasoned reaction to Episode 2, which we recommend if you’ve seen Episode 2.
We’re only two episodes in, but it’s already hard to believe that all eyes were on Lady Mary leading up to the Season 4 premiere. It appears the next episode will turn the focus back on Mary and her relationship with Lord Gillingham. Watch a scene from Episode 3 below.
Alas, there’s a lot to sort out in the remaining episodes. Good thing we have six of them to look forward to.
