I am a big fan of “Downton Abbey.”
I was distressed and horrified at the incident where Anna was attacked. Actually, it kept me awake at bedtime. However, I didn’t think it was an unacceptable story line. I just was curious about why Julian Fellowes wanted to portray this happening to Anna, a character that almost everyone must love about the show. Having read Ms. Froggat’s comments and other writing about the episode, I understand the rationale.
It will be hard to accept the early 20th century situation of an assaulted woman being unable to be open about her attack and expect the guilty party to pay a penalty.
Nevertheless, it is good drama.
