Is The Blood Donation Ban for Men Who Have Sex With Men Outdated?

The FDA is re-considering a deferral on donating blood for sexually active men who have sex with men. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is re-evaluating a controversial policy that began in the 1980s to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS through the nation's blood supply. The policy, which bans men from donating blood if they have had sex with another man in the past year, is criticized by gay rights advocates, who say it reflects decades of stigma regarding gay men and HIV. The NewsHour Weekend's Ivette Feliciano takes a closer look at the issue.
