PBS Newshour Weekend [series info]

Like many cities with temperate climates, Sarasota, Florida, is struggling with a large and growing homeless population. And now a lawsuit against the city argues that the issuance of citations for sleeping outside while there's a lack of resources available has criminalized homelessness - which prevents people from getting off the street. On Saturday, Special Correspondent Karla Murthy reports from Sarasota on the city's response to the lawsuit and recent efforts to tackle homelessness. In 1965, photojournalist Dickey Chapelle was killed in Vietnam, becoming the first female American journalist to be killed covering a war. In the new book, Dickey Chapelle Under Fire, author John Garofolo, an Iraq war veteran, talks with NewsHour's Megan Thompson about Chapelle's work, influence, and career choice at a time when few women entered the profession.
