Mallon, Professor, Department of History, UW-Madison, explores the notion of "America" which originally applied to the full Western Hemisphere but which was transformed within the emerging nation to refer to the United States. Mallon discusses instances where the utopian notion of "America" as a country causes tension with other North American and South American countries.
