Mexican Drug Cartels

Mexican Drug Cartels

Since 2006, Mexico's government has been waging a war against the country's drug cartels, who are fighting each other for control over territory. While homicide numbers have dropped in recent years, 80, 000 people in Mexico have been killed and 27,000 have been kidnapped in organized crime-related incidents. Premiering nationally for the first time this month, "Kingdom of Shadows," a documentary on PBS's POV, takes a closer look at the root causes of the violence and the everyday lives of those impacted by the drug war. NewsHour Weekend Correspondent Ivette Feliciano, who spoke with the film's creator, has more.
