The Milky Way Galaxy: 1951 and 2018
Robert Benjamin, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at UW-Whitewater, discusses changes in our understanding of the Milky Way. In 1951, astronomers at the Yerkes Observatory in Williams Bay, WI discovered that the Milky Was was a spiral. In 2018, measurements of the stars and the motion of the sky necessitated a remapping of the galaxy.
