Power & Privilege
In the seventh installment of democracy it is! we focus on what it takes to make a difference in a democratic society and the relationship between power and privilege. Wright School-Wrong Speed - To get to school, students at Wright Middle School must cross a busy road in Madison, Wisconsin. By organizing, holding marches, and meeting with people who have the power to make changes, these students hope to have flashing lights installed on their School Zone traffic signs, and getting a closer crosswalk with additional crossing guards. Fighting Corporate Tobacco - Students in F.A.C.T. have dedicated themselves to working against the tobacco industries by joining together and getting active. With Fight Against Corporate Tobacco, these students have made public service announcements, hosted rallies, and have a website dedicated to recruiting youth before they start smoking.
