Cultural Horizons of North America[series info]

Places with Faces

Students discover that places can have meaning for many reasons, including spiritual, economic, social, ethnic, ceremonial, and familial. Students also see examples of children helping create their own space; they respond by creating new artwork for the Exploratorium. Segments include visits to the Bad River Indian Reservation to observe the annual ricing, to a community garden to see plants and cropping systems from all over the world, to the National Circus School in Montreal, to a fishing family in Astoria, Oregon, and to see the creation of a murals in Birmingham, Alabama and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
