Health Care Law Upheld

This week on “Here & Now,” we laser in on this week’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling upholding the individual mandate of the federal health care reform law.
Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen calls it a victory, because this state and 29 others sued over the constitutionality of the mandate — but in particular the piece of it that was allowed under the commerce clause. Van Hollen says in finding THAT part unconstitutional, and finding the mandate is in fact, a tax — his legal arguments were upheld.
We also hear from U.S. Representative Ron Kind and his reaction to the ruling. He expressed disappointment that Governor Scott Walker is refusing to take action to implement the law.
Then, two members of the state legislature weigh in. Democratic Senator Jon Erpenbach, serves on the Senate health committee and has long worked toward expanding healthcare coverage in Wisconsin. He says, “I can’t believe we’re having the debate whether this is good or bad.”
Republican State Representative, Jeff Stone, is the Chair of the Assembly Health Committee. He says he is deeply disappointed by the Supreme Court’s ruling, calling the federal health care law, “bad public policy.”
That’s tonight on “Here & Now,” statewide at 7:30 p.m.
