Coming to PBS…

One reason I like working in public television is that I’m a fan of public television. So I was pleased this morning to get a preview of what’s coming up this fall. Our programming staff presented the new schedule and showed PBS’s preview reel. Highlights for me included new productions of Shakespeare histories that look really good, Richard II, Henry IV (parts 1 & 2) and Henry V. My daughter’s in a Henry IV production this summer, so this is something the whole family can look forward to.

We’ll also probably check out the new season of Upstairs, Downstairs though I don’t think it really compares to the original.

Nature and Nova look very promising, and one Nova, Secrets of the Viking Sword caught my eye. Partly this is because this of my recent trip to Denmark, but also from a favorite story I did years ago on Albion Swords, a New Glarus company that makes amazing replicas of historic pieces.

Frontline can be indispensable in an election season and I was particularly struck by their new slogan: “In a world [you have to love any promo that uses, "in a world...] full of questions, we answer to no one…but you.”

I say it often, but I’ve got to watch more TV.
