The Ryan reaction

There was a lot of anticipation leading up to the Paul Ryan keynote speech Wednesday night. Every member of the Wisconsin delegation knew Ryan would impress, the question was how much. Judging by the reaction of the crowd, he impressed a lot. Wisconsin delegates are likely biased, but they wondered if Mitt Romney could clear the bar set by Ann Romney and Paul Ryan the last two nights.

The other speaker that floored the crowd was former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Rice spoke of her upbringing in the segregated south and her rise to the Bush Administration. The Wisconsin delegation got a brief recap of that speech Thursday morning, when Rice showed up at their breakfast meeting to speak to the group. Rice told the crowd how her parents told her she would have to be twice as good, but then she smiled and said she didn’t think that was a bad thing.

Back here at the Tampa Convention Center I was asked to sit in with Hari Sreenivasan to talk about Wisconsin politics as part of the PBS NewsHour online.
