Wisconsin residents will be allowed to carry concealed weapons into most state buildings with a few exceptions.
Department of Administration Secretary Mike Huebsch outlined the policy here and created a Frequently Asked Questions section here.
The exceptions to the new law will include places where state and federal laws prohibit guns such as police stations, courts, and schools. It will also not be allowed in prisons, mental health institutions and probation/parole offices. Finally, places where the “inadvertent discharge of a weapon could create an explosion or chemical reaction,” will also be free of concealed weapons according to the new policy.
The governor’s office will allow concealed weapons. Individual lawmakers can make their own determinations about what they want to do inside the Capitol.
Wisconsin’s concealed carry law is set to go into effect on Tuesday, Nov. 1. It will be the 49th state in the country to allow such actions.
