Volunteering for Bid Sorter at PBS Wisconsin Online Auction

Volunteers make our Online Auction happen! Each spring, PBS Wisconsin hosts its annual auction fundraiser. More than 800 businesses donate thousands of items that are sold online to raise funding that supports PBS Wisconsin’s programming and activities.

About Bid Sorter

Sort bids by item and amount with earliest high bid on top. Place paperwork into a confirmation packet and give to a bid runner.

Bid Sorter Job Duties

  • Collect bid slips from tray.  Sort into piles by item number.
  • Sort each item number by bid amount from lowest to highest with highest bid on top.
  • In the case of matching bids, verify the time on the slip and place the slip with the earlier time on top of pile.
  • Communicate bids to your board captain.
  • Notify your board captain when the board has closed.
  • Check the time on the closed time slip.  Mark any bids that came in after the closing time with a red “L.”
  • Paperclip the bid slips and auctioneer copy together. 
  • Place paperwork into an envelope and hand to a bid runner.
  • Direct questions to your board manager as needed.

Bid Sorter Job Skills and Requirements

  • Friendly and positive demeanor.
  • Ability to see and clearly read documents.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Basic arithmetic skills.
  • Physical agility to work with your hands.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment.
  • Aural acuity to hear and speak with others in an environment that has noise/distractions.
  • Ability to discern when to ask your board manager for assistance.
  • Volunteers 16 and older may participate.
